I just got back from Toys R Us
Attention other US-based consumers of things Video Game! Toys R Us is having its semi-annual Buy Two Get One sale on all games. Mine was sold out of Dragonquest IV, but I did pick up Disgaea, Final Fantasy IV, and Professor Layton all for the DS.

The sale's on all week, but if you go Sunday or Monday, there is the additional bonus of 40% off most Wii accessories. It excludes Wiimotes and Nunchuks, but POINT CARDS are valid for the deal. Today, I bought my first (and second, and third, and fourth) point card. I may have to sample Megaman 9 later...

So, yeah. Toys R Us. Deals abound. (Thanks goes to Cheap Ass Gamer for the tipoff)

    Lapse
I just spent a few hours playing catch-up with my friends list. I'd let... um... about eleven days of posts lapse. Apologies to those receiving comments to posts a week and a half old.

Things have been busy around here. I've just transferred my position to another school, one that is within walking distance to my home. I've been at the old school for nearly five years, and the change came about rather suddenly, resulting in emotional panic attacks and much head spinning. I think things will be ok at this point, though. I got to go back Friday to say goodbyes and photocopy a letter I prepared for the families. One of them has already emailed me, and I've been promised Halloween pictures.

Of course, this is all concurrent to having to learn a new bunch of kids and the routes and schedules of their public schools as I am to be in charge of, among other things, transporting many of them daily. Thursday and Friday I did so with the individual who was vacating the position. Tomorrow, I have to rely on my notes and memory. I expect at least a week of stress before it starts to fall into place.

In addition to going to both schools Friday, I went to Borders for Educators' Savings Night and then drove over an hour straight from Crystal Lake to my hometown to meet up with Lowell, Ed, Abby, and ultimately Aldwin (old high school buddies and the fiance of onesuch) to catch the homecoming game, it being ten years out for most of us. Long sentence is long. Following the halftime show, truly the only reason to attend, we went out to eat together. The eatery had paper over the tablecloth and a cup of crayons, so we set ourselves to work. I started with a castle wall to fend off Lowell's pew-tanks, then set a harvester to collecting Tiberium. After decorating my throne room (I had a rug and tapestries, but my chair was still flanked by boulders), I successfully launched for Alpha Centauri and won. Also, there was a Blooper swimming about, and a cat was sleeping on my rug.

So, um, yeah. Busy night, busy week. I have slightly different hours at work now. I'll be starting at the same time, but without a half an hour of driving, I get to leave later. I'll be working later, but I get a ninety minute lunch that I can spend at home. Hopefully, this should work out rather nicely.

I still have some entries that I opened as separate tabs. I'm going to read through the comments of those and then start winding down my day.

Oh, and I bought the new Bioware-made Sonic rpg for the DS. I haven't played it very much as of yet, mainly due to being busy and not being stranded at work for my lunch breaks, but I like it so far. I don't think it will end up being one of my favorites, but it seems to pull together all of the various Sonic games' stories in a wonderful way. When game heroes (or family lines) have more than twenty separate adventures under their belts, things tend to get confusing or dropped altogether, but they've really made an effort to acknowledge everything, and I enjoy and appreciate that immensely.

This past weekend and then some
Oh, hey there. Glad you could make it. I'm just making preparations to post a Live Journal entry. Care to join in the experience?

We had a good weekend. On Friday we got KFC and I watched Monk and Psych, and then I logged back on to WoW to be unexpectedly called upon to sub in for a raid. 25-man Kael'thas is a fun encounter, even when it ends in his favor.

On Saturday, Evie and I watched The Dark Knight at an IMAX theatre. We enjoyed. This run of Batman films does an excellent job of balancing his efforts as Bruce Wayne and the Caped Crusader, and the Joker's portrayal was brilliant.

I began Sunday by visiting the flea market, one of my favorite activities. I can't locate the entry just now, but I'm sure I've described before how I occasionally have dreams where I come upon a windfall of amazing video game stuff for amazingly cheap and the more I look into it, the more amazing it becomes, and then I'm upset to wake up from it. A few years back, I had such an experience where someone just setting up had a box containing the third-generation Sega CD/Genesis combo unit AND Master System converter as well as controllers and cables and other small things and let me have it all for five dollars. I continued to be amazed for several days after. Well, yesterday, I had another like experience. Let me go get the things to document... May I offer you a drink while I'm up and running downstairs? No? Very well.

Alright, so one table was covered in multi-disc CD cases. They were all computer games from a decade or so ago. Each case was one dollar. They contained several discs each, all retail releases, but seemingly packaged into multicases by their previous owner. I kept finding things I wanted to own for a mere dollar a set, never really seeing every disc in the cases. As it was, some actually went unnoticed until I got home. Also, as I was picking through things, the sellers brought out the bundles of manuals. =D So, please, allow me to do a full inventory of my six dollar purchase.

Actually, I'll do that later. Evie's here and we're going to WoW together a bit. I'll finish by referencing the family picnic my work held for our client families. I served the role of dunk tank victim, a task at which I've had prior experience. Following that, I mostly ate a bunch of food and chatted with folks. Venture Bros. that evening. Jonas Venture Junior has always been obnoxious in the authentically-better-than-Rusty sense, but now that he's actively being an usurping snot, I'm really looking forward to seeing what becomes of him and his new Arch.

Oh, and Evie and I recorded a song for a little contest and am able to say that I'm in the beta for the upcoming WoW expansion. Enjoy!

    Five Years
I was going to post yesterday, but then I took a nap that turned into a three-hour tour that ended late in the evening with a phone call from my brother in Tokyo. Then I took care of neglected things and went back to bed. Aaaaanyway...

Yesterday marked five years of being matrimonied all holy-like. We celebrated with a meal that I shall describe as so:

DPSYCHO PRESENTS: HIS OWN TALE FROM THE OLIVE GARDEN nottobeconfusedwithTheElectricPope

We ate at The Olive Garden. It was yummy.

THUS ENDS THIS TALE FROM THE OLIVE GARDEN.

Right, so then we were going to catch a matinee, but it had been recently brought to our collective attention that Hancock severely misses whichever of several marks at which it may have been aiming. This left us with Get Smart or Wall-E, but we ended up dawdling and missing the cheap tickets, so we scrapped the movie idea and got our bicycles out instead. We have more than a couple bike routes around out home, and we traversed one we'd not yet explored.

I figured we'd still watch a DVD or somesuch, but instead we looked at lolcats and then, as mentioned, I took an unexpectedly lengthy nap.

So there you have it. The Fourth was nice. I went home to Morton Grove and saw the parade and fireworks with my folks and Kyuu. We ran into his sister at the carnival that night and she generously only complained a tiny bit when we stole some of her food.

Car's still in the shop. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow. Borrowing Mom's in the mean time, but she needs it back Wednesday night. Oh, and I've just now posted the interview questions to those who responded to the interview entry. Sorry for that delay.

I'm making shelves. I should go and check on the boards I've stained in the workroom. I have a workroom. The shelves are for the display of old computer game boxes. I have old computer game boxes.

    The King of Limbo

This is, supposedly, the ending to Limbo of the Lost, a PC title that has finished development and is under a lot of fire for using rendered scenes from other games in practically every segment. This terrifying video is expected by some to get a lot of Internet mileage in the next couple of weeks. And I do mean terrifying. This is sloppier than the 3D game animation of 15 years ago. Song's catchy, though.

Oh, and in other news, a deer decided to make friends with my car at 45mph this morning. Last I heard, they're not talking any more. I, however, have been on the phone quite a bit with Allstate Insurance.

    Adrienne said it's MEME day.
Guess I'm obligated to post one. I KNOW! I'll do the one I'm obligated to complete thanks to [info]zombie_dog!

    1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me" or something of an equally pithy nature.
    2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature. Be warned!
    3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions, please?
    4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
    5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

Per step 3, I hereby present to you...

The questions and answers for Gabe's interview of me! )

I expect interview requests! Your answers needn't be as wordy as mine. I like to write, as you could probably guess.

In other news, I forgot to report in my previous entry that we watched the new Indiana Jones film. It was enjoyable, so long as you get past the fact that his bones would all be liquid from all the brutal jostling he endures without so much as a scratch. He gets bloodied and bruised from a fistfight, but he can be flung and spun several hundred yards in a variety of vehicles and walk away undaunted. Huh.

People need to play Arcomage with me. It's fun and strategic. Please? No one's accepting my challenges tonight. -.-

    A Few Quick Notes
    - We are back from our vacation. I spent the week with the extended family, caught three fish, and went kayaking.

    - My brother returned from Japan for the week to attend said family vacation. He brought me belated birthday presents, including the original Gyakuten Saiban for GBA complete in its box, a keychain that plays the New Super Mario Bros. stage start song when its button is pressed (that I will house beside my Super Mario Bros. death noise one), and the soundtrack to The World Ends With You.

    - The World Ends With You is a wonderful, wonderful game. I was up late last night beating it, clocking around 40 total hours, and I still have plenty to do in it.

    - I've listened to the soundtrack several times now. The best part of it is that my brother bought it for me at Tower Records in Shibuya. Said location is a necessary destination within the game itself.

    - Our cat is adorable. It's rather clear that he's glad to be out of the pet boarding place.

    - I bought new clothes.

    - Kyuu should come and retrieve his pants. IT'S BEEN FIVE MONTHS.

    Saturday Night
Alright, pardon me for a moment while I list a series of facts that came to be last evening, solely for the purpose of boosting my personal satisfaction at the expense of your not having experienced such things. Unless you're Lowell, in which case you were there for part of it.

Evie, Sam (WoW friend), and I went into the city last night to see Jonathan Coulton live. We met Lowell there. His opening act, Paul and Storm, are also excellent and worthy of praise. They have a pirate-themed song with audience interaction and sexual undertones that set a pirate mood for the remainder of the concert. (JC: "...turns out the eyepatch is A-OK" Audience: "Arrrrrr!") They also served as his backup singers and noise-generators for many of his songs, and he for one of theirs.

He played many of our favorites and even Rick Rolled us during the electronically-sampled Mr. Fancy Pants. "Never gonna give you PANTS." o.O Near the end, he played RE: Your Brains, a common favorite since Penny-Arcade linked the video of its performance at PAX, and tutored us beforehand on brayng the chorus mindlessly and off-tempo. I got him and several people in the audience to laugh when I came in, loudly, a beat and a half early during the silence after "eyes" the second time around. I is accomplished, yus. His encore included First of May segueing into Sweet Caroline. No, you're right, it's not one of his songs, but it went over very well. I mean, sheesh, look at the lyrics.

Afterward, Lowell left, and the rest of us stood in line to shake his hand and gather autographs. I had my ticket stub signed by him and Paul and Storm, and I now also have his initials marked onto my Nintendo DS. Evie bought his CD set for our friend in Austin and was on the phone with her while waiting in line, which she handed to him to talk with her. "Well, I'm a big fan of yours too, Jeni!" He then made the chatterbox hand gesture to us in line. Following that, he wrote out a nice personal message to her on the CD tin.

Following all of this, we had considered going to see The Neo-Futurists, but we instead opted to stay free for the next show at the venue, a string of comedians that started out poorly but built up to an eventual and memorable performance by none other than ROBIN WILLIAMS. I mean, wow, how do you pass that up?

So, yeah, full evening. I slept well after we finally made it home at 2am.

Silent Hill fans, please weigh in
One of my friends, the esteemed Skizzy the Wonder Lizard, has posted an entry discussing both a vegan community that does little else but criticize and belittle others as well as the Internet fandom of Silent Hill's "Pyramid Head" persona and all the nasty rape that he represents. It's turned into quite a discussion, and I'd like to see what some of my friends have to offer to it, given their unique observations of Internet prejudice and fanboyism as well as video games as a whole. At the very least, most of it makes for a very interesting read. She has permitted me to link to it and allow you all to add your two cents. Please do so!

Oh, and in other video game news, while our WoW server was down for a while, I managed to get the SSBBrawl trophy challenge for defeating five enemies in Cruel Brawl. Only took me about an hour. I ended up using Kirby as weight doesn't seem to affect their ability to blast you up and out with their first hit.

    GAH
I hadn't checked LJ in about two weeks. I had no idea it had really been that long, but I had to go back over more than 150 entries on my firends list before I encountered the last one I'd read. I suck. Good thing I had today off to remedy this terrible sin.

Here's a bunch of geekdom news from various sources, including some of the entries upon which I've just gorged myself.

    Potential Missed Phone Calls
Some time during the day Friday, I assume, the cat took our one wired phone off the hook. We were out until eleven last night and did not discover and remedy it until after 8:30 this morning. As we were near the phone most of the time since getting home, and would certainly have heard its report had it not yet subsided, I'm sure it must have happened prior to Friday evening, perhaps as early as yesterday morning.

In any case, I apologize if we've missed any calls. You should now be able to reach us. This was especially discomforting as we have a guest coming in today by train from out-of-state. -.-

Gah! I'm conscious of this being the first post of March, and thus the source for the probable "one-sentence-from-each-month's-first-entry" post in ten months! That's not supposed to happen!

Nintendo DS via differently-pitched chime at power-on.

Not on the list? There's still time to be cool.

    Free Pancakes!
I'd just like to take a moment to make sure that everyone is aware of Free Pancake Day at IHOP tomorrow. It's the kind of thing where, if I didn't know about and one of my friends did, I'd appreciate being told of it. I see it, therefore, as my duty to make sure that everyone else knows.

Also, has anyone else heard of Arcomage? I've been playing it since I found a standalone version of it last week. I've also since been playing a more robust online version of it, though my random opponents tend to take a long time between turns. I'd like to try out two new decks I've constructed. Anyone?

Oh, and Circuit City has all computer games that are regularly under twenty dollars on sale for half off this week. I picked up the PC version of Puzzle Quest, having adored the DS version of it a year ago. It's a shame I already paid full price for the King's Quest Collection as that was there as well. Lots of "Old Game Complete Collections" actually. I grabbed the Space Quest Collection for four dollars and change and considered the Police Quest Collection as well. I seem to like games with Quest in their title. Good thing they didn't have a game titled Toilet Quest or I might have felt compelled to buy it. Anyway, if you like simple computer distractions, drop by your nearest CCity and see if anything appeals. They even had Doom3 in there.

I'm sleepy. I'll attempt to cure this condition with sleep. HP/MP restored! But you're still hungry.
